Rome Wasn't Built in a Day.
Roaming the flats in the coolness of October. It is my version of Fantasy Fest!

Seeing is Believing.
Well, I am not seeing; and I am not believing, it. I am sure there
are many factors involved; but I have nothing to report, as the
bonefish are not around...well, around me at least.

Ditto
Just a bit windy; but visibility and access to areas was good.
I just can't seem to find them; and it should be peak season. It
should be about time for a bonefishing tournament. Maybe I will
find a way to start one someday.

Very Difficult
Wow! Tough fishing; but I did catch one yesterday and saw one
today...lots of hours, not many bonefish. It just makes me
wonder about the health of the bonefish population.

Bone Island
It took all day; but I finally caught one on Oct. 11. Today, right
away, I ran into a small school of bonefish and managed to catch 2
before they decided to leave. I didn't see any more after that. I
am still unsure of the health of the population.

Sunny Daze
Well, water on the south side of the islands has cleared up a little
bit in some places in this 20mph wind; and It was truly beautiful
day on this section of the flats today. No bonefish around though;
but I did catch these little guys. I will hunt for bonefish again
tomorrow.

Blowing My Mind - The Bonefish Challenge
A nice fresh day on the flats today! I saw a Trio (6Lb-ers) and 2 singles (4Lb-ers).. Five bonefish spotted is much
better than none, especially lately. I was happy just to get in a cast; but the wind turned out to be happier, making my
cast land on top of the passing fish. I stood in the same spot most of the time, like a blue heron; so I took off my today
most of the time; and when I got to land, I felt like I had Back-On-Earth Astronaut legs! I hope the wind slows and I
spot some tomorrow.

...Try, Try, Again
Neither Rain, nor sleet, nor snow keeps me from trying. I have been
putting in many hours without seeing bonefish; and we have had some
sunny, windy, maybe not the best conditions. The past couple of days
have been sunny and milder. The pilot is probably spotting more
bonefish than I am! In my opinion, the numbers are down.

Nothing from Nothing
Weather has been a main factor lately, with wind and more windy days and
nights stirring up the flats. I go to the flats most days anyway, as time is running
out into winter cold water, which means bonefish will be gone. I have seen (0)
bonefish since Nov. 5, and haven't caught one since Oct. 12. I hope I see some
soon; and I am concerned about them.

Lower Florida Keys Bonefish Flats Fishing - Without a Guide - Fall 2011
Ever since I caught My First Florida Keys Bonefish fly fishing, I have learned to
appreciate an area that has some of the finest fly fishing for bonefish in the world.
Hopefully, by viewing - "Sightfishing" this website, you have learned how to Bonefish
in the Florida Keys without a guide, along the roadside, fly fishing, wading for
bonefish in the backyard, near residential areas. It is the thrill of catching the elusive
bonefish that keeps one coming back to the Florida Keys, year after year.
Do-it-Yourself bonefishing is possible! Good Luck.

High Winds from NSE & W
This past month has been the worst flats fishing weather I have ever seen for its
length of time; and very different from last year. It has been hard to find clear
enough water to even get motivated to find bonefish. When I caught the
pompano, that water really isn't clear; but you can't tell from the picture. "Gin
Clear" has been out of the question for at least a month. Mother Nature is in
control; and only she knows the health of the bonefish population. The end is
near, for this bonefishing season. Cool water/air is coming soon.
Not a Chance
I haven't seen a bonefish since the 12th; but the recent Hurri-rain
didn't help at all. I went out today (I knew better; but I had to look
and get my tan back.) and the water was too silty, then the clouds
came. There was mullet hanging around. I hope I see one soon.
Can't Take the Heat?
I haven't seen a bonefish in a week, since I landed that one on September 19; and I have been
searching on the flats so much, that my yellow toenail wore a hole in my wading booty. The clouds, the
keeps them off the flats...now myself as well.
Weather or Not
Cloudy, windy, and pounding surf is what I have been facing lately.
The weather has shut down flats fishing for me, even though I
have to look in any conditions, just to be sure. Sunday I hope will
be better, as it has been weeks since I have seen a bone.

What a beautiful day for bonefishing.
The thundering sounds of brief lightning storms and motorcycles, the song of the cicada playing
onshore, and the theme from Hawaii Five-O surfs into the thoughts I gather, while the heavy breeze
whirls through the darkened sky. I wait for these to pass in order to focus on the sunny day to come
upon the flats, as I seek out the elusive ghost, the bonefish.
Access denied, as none of these 5 bones take interest. More shots later; but the results are the same,
yet a beautiful day that creates a smiling face, as any on the flats; and there is always tomorrow.

Updated Fishing Reports from Key West to Islamorada, regarding saltwater inshore fishing, flats fishing, and Bonefish reports. These fishing reports are recent when written from daily to weekly, if available, dated, and as close to on-target as possible. I report accurate numbers with photos of the catch that speak for themselves, and not the broad generalizations of brochure-styled seasonal and monthly fishing reports of sales professionals. I want you to know the experience, before you arrive for inshore shallow water angling.
